An Eventful Weekend

Hello and thank you for visiting my page again. I apologize for not posting last Friday, I was very busy and out of town over the weekend, but this does give me couple of things to talk about. First, I was out of town visiting my mother and step-dad. On the train ride, I was writing down notes for myself about the tours I will be giving at Banting House now that I have shadowed a couple of other tours. It was nice that the trip was rather quiet and uneventful, though the moments of bumpiness certainly did not help my consistency. It was nice however to reconnect after a month of separation, and though this was not the first time we have been in different countries, as I previously did a study-abroad in Lüneburg, Germany, I know it is still particularly hard for her.
In Banting house as I was shadowing one of the tours, I remembered a comment that Mack left on the Introductions Blog, in which "Indigenous people in Canada are one of the most at-risk populations for getting it [diabetes] and having major complications." In the tour, the guide actually covered this with one of our visitors, stating that they seem to be the most at risk and most common cases of diabetes, especially for the major complications to the point of losing limbs to it. She stated that she feels one of the possible reasons is the intense stress that the Indigenous peoples have continued to go though which could have assisted in why the diabetes often has such major complications in the community. I am sure this is not the only reason, but I could absolutely see it being the case seeing all that they have had to go through throughout history. What do you all think?
Finally, we have been further touching on our class SoHo project which continues to loom over my, and likely, our heads. I will not mince words, I have been rather nervous about the project, but a couple things have made me feel more positively about it. First, we have divided the work into groups, in which I will be working with Mack on the Medical History of the old Victoria Hospital. Which a side note, please feel free to let me know should you have any information or contacts who may know about or who have worked in the Hospital and I can connect you to someone who could help us in our research! In our two-person group, we met with our Professor, Michelle Hamilton, and together we came up with our objectives for which we are researching and some possible sources and research locations. Following this meeting, I am feeling much more confident about the project.
That is all I have for *last* week, there should be another post this Friday hopefully. If not, I will see you all again next week. Thanks for reading!
Read your last post, good job, Jesse,. It's interesting to read about your experiences as a student researching the history and stories of Banting House.
